Verify the provider and define the handover

Ask about identity checks, qualifications, references, language ability and experience relevant to your children’s ages. Agree the requested duties, supervision boundaries and permitted activities directly with the proposed provider. Property access, parent contacts and the handover should be clear before the first session.

Do not assume housekeeping staff provide childcare or that a nanny’s requested hours automatically extend when dinner or an outing runs late. Define how additional time is approved. Keep sensitive medical and identity documents out of the initial inquiry; if a verified provider needs more detail, agree an appropriate private follow-up. Unresolved suitability or safeguarding questions should prevent confirmation.
